Application to Perform at State In-Service Convention

The South Dakota Bandmasters Association has had a long, proud history of excellent performing groups at our annual convention in Brookings. All bands wishing to apply must fill out the application and included a recorded performance of your band.

The Quality Of The Recording Will Make A Difference In The Selection

We ask that this recording include only two numbers of contrasting styles to help expedite the selection process.

The deadline for applications is one week prior to All State Band.

The recordings will be reviewed by a committee of five including SDBA President, SDBA Past President, Convention Bands Chairman, and two additional representatives. The judging will be blind to eliminate any questions of prejudice. Tone, intonation, technique and style are some of the major considerations while listening to the recordings. It is suggested that you budget for a convention performance without knowing of your success as a precautionary measure. All applicants will be notified whether they have been successful or unsuccessful.

If accepted, bands will be given total stage time (warm up plus performance) according to the following guidelines:
  • Elementary/Middle School Bands: 30 minutes total stage time (recommended 18 minutes of prepared music)
  • High School Bands: 45 minutes of total stage time (recommended 32 minutes of prepared music)
